Public Speaking Competition – 2015

On April 22nd,  we had the enormous pleasure of listening to Majo Tear´s speech «How old are you? I am what I’ve done with my years”. She represented Las Cumbres at the annual Public speaking Cometition organised by ESU. Her performance was outstanding , she was able not only to deliver her speech fluently and clearly but also to catch the audience’s attention making her own experience come to life following the topic To be ignorant of the past is to remain a child. We spent a fruitful evening at the British Embassy listening to 33 other speeches from young students coming from the most prestigious bilingual schools.

We are very thankful to Majo for representing our school with such passion  and  dedication!

Below, Majo’s words on her experience as a public speaker representing our school.

I’m Majo Tear and I’m in Senior 5. I am very happy I had the chance this year to participate in the annual Public Speaking competition. I had an amazing coach, Cecilia Lasa. She helped me to develop my speech and to deliver it. The topic this year was «To be ignorant of the past is to remain a child», and as probably everyone who participated on the competition, the first thing that came to my mind was «I have no clue on what I’m going to say». However, thanks to time, and people around me I was able to build a speech which I’m very proud of. I’m thankful I had the chance to present it first to my secondary school mates, because it gave me the chance to have a previous experience before actually presenting it to a lot of people. The day of the competition I was not very nervous to my surprise, thanks to all my friends and family who gave me confidence. Although the competition lasted a long time, I enjoyed every minute of it. I was able to listen to 33 speeches which gave me other people’s point of view and made me reflect. I think that the moment of the competition was the time when I said my speech at its best and I’m proud of it. I still can’t believe I was brave enough to stand in front of so many people and talk about something which was my very own work and thinking. I do not regret having put all the effort I did even though I did not win. I hope next year, the participant of Las Cumbres wins since going to London would be such an amazing experience!
